Non-Scale Victories (and the importance of recognizing them during your weight loss journey)

Today, we're diving into a crucial aspect of the weight loss journey: recognizing non-scale victories. While the scale is often the go-to measure of progress, it doesn't always reflect the full picture. So take notice! Here are a few things that I noticed . . .

1. Waking Up Rested: One of the first things I noticed is waking up feeling rested and not groggy. I attribute this to losing weight, eating healthy, and drinking plenty of water. Feeling rested and ready to start the day is a great sign that my body is responding well to the changes I've made.

2. Reduced Foot Pain: My feet don’t hurt as much anymore. For me, foot pain was a significant indicator of weight gain. Even a small gain of 5 pounds would make a noticeable difference in how my feet felt. This pain often served as an early warning sign of weight gain. If you notice improvements in your feet, knees, or hips, consider it a non-scale victory.

3. Easier Mobility: Getting up from the couch, a chair, or the floor without using my hands is another victory. It might seem simple, but not needing to push myself up with my hands is a big deal. It’s a clear sign of increased strength and mobility, which is so important for overall health.

4. Less Fidgetiness: This is a big one for me—reduced fidgetiness and discomfort in my clothes. When I gain weight, I feel restless and uncomfortable, especially around my bra and waist. This constant discomfort was exhausting. As I’ve lost weight, this fidgetiness has decreased significantly. Feeling more comfortable in my skin and clothes is a huge non-scale victory.

These are just a few examples of non-scale victories that show progress beyond what the scale says. I'm curious to know what non-scale victories you've experienced. Please share them in the comments below. Thank you for spending time with me today, and I look forward to seeing you in the next post!
